Ryder Cup 2012: Who will lead USA to win the Cup?
Every two years, a team of the best golfers the U.S. has to offer battles against a team of Europe’s best in the Ryder Cup. This year the event will take place at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois from September 28th through the 30th.
Davis Love III will lead Team USA with 8 point qualifiers and 4 hand selected golfers. The points system established by The PGA decides the first 8 spots on the U.S. Ryder Cup team. The eight American golfers with the most points as of August 12 determine these spots. Points are based on the following:
– Prize money earned in the 2011 major championships. One point is awarded for every $1,000 earned in the 2011 Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, and PGA Championship.
– Prize money earned in “official” 2012 events from January 1 through August 12. One point is awarded for every $1,000 earned, excluding major championships, events played opposite major championships, and events played opposite the World Golf Championships.
– Prize money earned for the 2012 major championships. Two points are awarded for every $1,000 earned in the 2012 Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, and PGA Championship.
– Prize money earned in 2012 events played opposite the major championships and opposite World Golf Championship events between January 1 and August 2012. One-half point is awarded for every $1,000 earned in these events.
The 8 qualifiers are, Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar, and Phil Mickelson.

Love had a great group to start with and then he has 4 “Captian’s Picks” to choose his own players to hold down a dominating European team. Love picked Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson, and Brandt Snedeker. Great choices and a solid team.
With such a great team of leaders and exceptional golfers, who will emerge through it all and hold down Rory, Luke, Graeme, Westwood, Sergio……Europe has a power house of golfers on their team. Rory went on Jimmy Fallon and claimed he is “the greatest golfer in the world,” will Tiger finally step to the plate and hold him down for the count?
So, as the greens are prepared, the fairway is mowed, the rough is grown out and the pin placements are made, who will step forward and lead Team USA to a victory. Will it be a veteran like Phil, Tiger or Furyk or a newbie like Keegan, Dufner or Snedeker? Will the Ryder Cup stay in Europe or come home to the US? Be prepared to watch the best 3 days of golf in 2012. With the selection of Team USA, I have a feeling the Cup is coming back to the US. Go get em Team USA!
