2012 Ryder Cup Day 1 Round Up

United States leads at the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club over Europe 5-3.  Day 1 had several incredible moments, including Bubba Watson pumping up the crowd before his tee shot, Colsaerts playing like a one man show and Bradley putting like a champion.  But what can we learn from Day 1? Is Davis Love making a mistake by resting Tiger Woods tomorrow morning? Can the Europeans put together match ups favorable enough to shock the United States tomorrow?

Well here are a few things we can take away from Day 1.  Mickelson and Bradley are great partners.  After playing extremely well all round, including good iron play and amazing putting, Mickelson had to have one last great shot on the 17th to put the nail in the coffin.  Mickelson and Bradley defeated the number one golfer in the world, McIlroy, and his partner Grahame and looked pretty relaxed while doing so.  I do expect McIlroy to come back tomorrow and play well.

Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson played very well together.  Watson and Simpson dominated their match and at one point, Bubba pumped up the crowd (Happy Gilmore style) before one of his tee shots and raised his club after he hit it.  The Chicago crowd loved it and went crazy.  A very fun moment to watch if you are a United States fan.  Watching kind of makes you think, why can’t golf be played like this all the time.

Nicholas Colsaerts may have had one of the best rookie debuts in a Ryder Cup.  He made eight birdies and an eagle in one of the most impressive performances not only for a rookie but for any player in Ryder Cup history.

Lastly, don’t count out the Europeans just yet.  The U.S. only leads by two points heading into the final two days.  It looks like we are in for a great Ryder Cup in 2012.
