Black Widow “Widow Maker” Grip Review
Grip it, and grip it good – *rocks the air guitar*
You guessed it! It is time for a grip review. I hope you aren’t afraid of spiders because today I will be going through the paces with the Black Widow “Widow Maker” grips.
The Widow Makers feature a tag team approach with a corded top for extra traction in bad weather and a textured bottom to allow for better control.
They come in four different varieties:
Midsize Black/Black
Round Black/White
Ribbed Black/Red
Ribbed Black/White
Black Widow was kind enough to send over a full set of midsize black/black for us to review. First impressions were off to a good start. The grips are nice to look at and even before they were on my clubs, I was impressed with their feel. This is a very solid and well made product.
I’m going to jump right in to the 3 questions that matter.
How does it look?
I must say that I am quite pleased with the appearance of the Widow Makers. The corded top has an awesome look with the Black Widow logo spider leading the way into the grip. The contrast in the two sections of the grip adds a nice effect and really makes you feel like you got more than your money’s worth.
How does it feel?
This is really what matters in a grip, right? Well then I guess Black Widow’s attempt at a quality grip is a success. The Widow Makers feel awesome. They sit in the hands very nicely and really do what they advertise in giving the dual benefit of a corded/textured design. I felt very confident in loosening my death grip with my base hand and loved the textured feel with my control hand.
How does it perform?
In the performance of the actual grip and how well it displays its quality, I was very impressed. I have used these grips all season and I see no signs of wear at all. I can easily see them lasting at least another season while looking brand new.
As far as the swing performance, that is really reliant on the person driving the club. There is a nice amount of tackiness on the grips that eliminated any slipping in my hands. I had a couple of “wet” rounds and didn’t think twice about whether my club would be going farther than the ball.
So what do I think? I found a lot of success with these grips this year and saw my scores lower. That could be due to a lot of factors but having a grip that instills complete confidence and comfort proves that it is worth investing in. Black Widow really made a quality product here with the Widow Maker line of grips. I am deeply impressed and would venture to say that the design and craftsmanship can easily rival the big names like GolfPride and Lamkin. If you are looking to re-grip any clubs in your bag, do yourself a favor and take a look at Black Widow’s line of great products.
