Martin Golf: A Timeless Tradition

url-2Rick Martin is no stranger to the golf apparel industry.  Founder of Fairway and Greene which Mr. Martin sold back in 2004, he is back in business with Martin golf apparel.  The Martin golf apparel is comprised of 5 different collections, the British Regimental, Vineyard, Charcoal Classics, Timeless Elements, and Essentials.

Martin continues to focus on natural fibers and a traditional look to construct his polo shirts.  The polo shirt is made from 100% Pima cotton and “most importantly, a unique, proprietary finishing processes impart a lasting luster and hand feel to every shirt we produce” according to Martin’s statement on his website (www.martingolfapparel.com).

How did it Look/Feel/Perform?

IMG_7855I was given the privilege of trying out a polo shirt from Martin’s new “Vineyard” collection.  I am just your average golfer and I have to say the shirt’s fabric and look has a superior quality feel and appearance than any other golf shirt I have owned.  The texture and feel of the fabric appears to be of a breathable material to help absorb sweat but at the same time evaporate during the course of play.  The “Vineyard colour palette is based on the rich, earth tones found on the Vineyard, in bold and subtle colour variations” according to the description of this collection on Martin’s website.

I played a round of golf and it was sunny day and approximately 75 degrees during my round.  I stayed cool and dry during my entire round.  I am about 5’9” and weight approximately 185 pounds and normally wear a large in shirts.  I noticed the Martin polo shirt is cut slightly bigger than your standard large polo.  Due to the larger fit, I was not constantly checking to see if my shirt was coming un-tucked.  The shirt rested nicely on my back and shoulders never restricting my golf swing.  The only negative I found with the shirt was the length of the sleeves was slightly too long.

Look Score: Very High

Feel Score: Very High

Performance: Very High

Martin golf apparel is targeting a certain clientele in the golf apparel market due the fact they will only be distributing their brand through private clubs and the prices of their polo shirts range from $75 – $90.

If you’re an average golfer looking to treat yourself to a superior quality polo shirt or a golfer who has the luxury of purchasing clothing from a private club, you cannot go wrong with the timeless tradition of a Martin polo shirt. On or off the course you will feel a cut above the rest.

We wanted to thank Rick Martin and Mary Beth Lacy for allowing Bunkers Paradise access to such great golf clothing.
