TaylorMade Lethal Golf Ball Review: 5 Layers of Fun

photo 1 (1)Taylormade Lethal Golf Ball Review

Five layers is the amount of layers TaylorMade used to make one of the best Golf Balls today. They did it with the development of the Penta TP5 Golf Ball which saw its use by tour players in late 2009 and has been proven to be a top performer since.

TaylorMade continues to be one of the top names in the Golf Industry and recognized to have one of the best Golf  balls on the market. They are proving to be on top again with the improvement over their already high performing Penta TP 5. TaylorMade calls their newest Golf ball,  “Lethal” and according to the pros, it lives up to its name. In the late 2012 season, pros were putting this ball to the test under the prototype name “Project 5”. The ball then made its debut in 2013 under the “Lethal” name at the gusty Sony Open. At the hands of TaylorMade Staff player Pat Perez, he was able to put down an impressive round of 63, with the three other rounds at sub 70.

According to our TaylorMade sources, the Lethal Golf ball is a big improvement over the already tour proven Penta TP5. The Lethal ball will also have five layers, but reformulated and with a completely redesigned dimple pattern. Based on these improvements, the new dimple pattern allows the ball to fly in high wind conditions and the multiple layers provide better control with irons and wedges.

The Bunkers Paradise Crew were fortunate enough to get a hold of a few TaylorMade Lethal Golf Balls. The ones we got a hold of were labeled with “Project 5”. Our TaylorMade contact assured us these are the same exact ball as the Lethal Golf ball that are now out on store shelves.  We tried the balls out on a course and here are our thoughts:

Look:
The outer cover is seamless and designed with an LDP 322 dimple pattern.

Feel and Performance:
photo 3Driver- Compared to the Penta TP5, flight trajectory on the Lethal (Project 5) ball was lower and it had a penetrating ball flight and more roll than I was used to. This translated to more distance, at least 10 more yards over the TP5.

Wedges and Irons:
Soft and great feel off the club face. Improved accuracy and good amount of spin on the greens. Judge your distance correctly, because these balls can backspin off the greens!

On the green this ball felt nice off the putter. Positive feel on contact lets you know if you hit a pure putt.

Final Thoughts:
From tee to green, this is a great all around ball for a Golfer at all levels. We are fortunate to have great weather in Southern Cslifornia, so we weren’t able to see how these balls performed in windy conditions. If you choose to play on a windy day, give a TaylorMade Lethal Golf ball a try and tell us what you think.
