PGA Tour News: Zach Johnson Leads at John Deere Classic | First Round Update

With a lot of the world’s attention starting to head towards The Open Championship, let’s not be too hasty and forget about the John Deere Classic.  Nine-time PGA Tour winner, Zach Johnson kicked off the first round with a 7-under 65 and shares the lead with Camilo Villegas.

“When you are comfortable with the surroundings, when you’re comfortable with the peripherals (it helps). My routine has been the same here the last three or four years. We’re staying in the same place. I’ve got my family here. The (John Deere Classic) staff does a great job of just letting me get into my game.” Johnson said.

Johnson also found a comfort level with his Thursday morning pairing, playing alongside Davis Love III, his close friend and Sea Island, Ga., neighbor, and with fellow Midwest native and Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup teammate Steve Stricker, whose run of three straight John Deere Classic titles was ended by Johnson last year.

Last weeks Greenbrier Winner, Jonas Blixt shot a 3 over today and couldn’t quite get back into the groove he was in last weekend.

Notables: Boo Weekley -5, Steve Stricker -4, Davis Love III -4.
