Golf News: Adam Scott Illness May Cost Him More Than Just a Victory

By Ron Mintz

Atlanta- Adam Scott felt optimistic about his chances this week at East Lake CC.  He came to the Tour Championship ranked third in the Fed Ex Cup, and a victory this week would of assured him the Fed Ex Cup and probably Player Of The Year Award for the PGA Tour for 2013

All that changed late Friday night after his second round, where he stood just four shots back of the leader Henrik Stenson. He became ill with flu like symptoms and got very little sleep as a result.

“I wasn’t feeling well and had a rough night”, said Scott. “This morning I felt worse so I had to get some help. I feel alot better now.”

Scott had an IV administered in the clubhouse before his 9am tee time with Jordan Spieth and Henrik Stenson. The IV enabled him to complete the third round despite his illness and heavy rains on the finishing holes. After shooting a 74 he is now nine shots back of Stenson and his chances of a victory, and the Fed Ex Cup may be beyond reach.

His round started just as bad as he felt with three bogeys, and a double bogey for a front nine 40. Despite eight pars and a birdie on 17, it was too little, too late for Scott.

” I felt like I could make a run today but it went completely the other way. I felt lethargic and couldn’t get anything going” said Scott after his round.

Stenson expressed concern for his friend and playing partner Scott:

“I feel for Adam. I could tell he wasn’t well even though he never complained all day. You could clearly see he was not in a good state physically today. The battle I thought I would have with him today went away because of his illness.”
