Well ladies and gents, it’s time to get your “Mack Daddy” groove on. That’s right Callaway has release the new Mack Daddy 2 wedges. It’s been 7 years since the first Mack Daddy was put on the market.
What are Mack Daddy Wedges?
Here’s a lil’ back story: Phil was at the Callaway testing studios when he hit the wedge and was pleased with its results and said “Yeah…that’s my Mack Daddy Groove”
Let’s breakdown down new updated stats on the Mack Daddy 2:
- There are 3 different models “Soul Options”: S, C, U.
- Patterned after the 2008 X Forged Line
- Laser-Milled Micro Grooves
- Two finishes choosing from: Chrome or Vintage (Slate)
- Forged from 1020 carbon steel
- Loft ranges from 47 – 64
- True Temper Dynamic Gold Steel S300 Shafts
- Aggressive Grooves:
- Wider
- Side Wall is 5 degrees
- Conform to USGA Specification
- MOST IMPORTANT: Phil Mickelson Mack Daddy Swag Certified
What type of Soul is right for you:
S Grind – Meant for players who fall in between both U and C categories. 10 degree bounce
C Grind – Players who like to keep the face open more with their shots. The most versatile of the three wedges. 14 degree bounce.
U Grind – Players who like to play a little steeper into the ball. Phil Mickelson inspired. 10 degree bounce, but only available in 58 and 60 degree models.
But the one thing to remember with the Mack Daddy Wedges that no matter what grind you choose, there will still be more spin on the ball than you were originally counting on.
I think what’s great about the wedges are the variety of options Callaway provides to the golfers. Essentially, when your choosing your club, you’re choosing your golf soul. Not a lot of manufacturers allow customers to pick their own grinds. The most you’d be allow to choose is loft degree.
