Karrie Webb Wins 5th Women’s Australian Open Title: LPGA News

Karrie Webb was able to clinch the title today with a total of 12 under at the Victoria Golf Club. She overcame a 5 shot deficit by shooting 4 under, beating Chella Choi who shot 2 over today. This is her 40th LPGA Tour victory and her 5th Women’s Australian Open!

The final round was incredibly close with, at one point, four players were tied for first. Webb’s birdie on number 11 put her tied for the lead for the first time in the final round. Webb and Choi were tied after Webb bogeyed the par-3 16th hole. A par on the 17th and a birdie on the 18th gave Webb the outright lead. This lead put pressure on Choi who had to birdie 18 to tie and force a playoff.

This could have been Choi’s first LPGA Tour victory, but a tough up-and-down on the 18th left her with a par, losing by one stroke to Webb. She will remain 11th all-time on the LPGA Tour Career Wins List!

Congratulations Karrie!
