Steven Bowditch still on top at the Valero Texas Open
Bowditch shot a four under par, 68 on Saturday to take a three shot lead heading into the final round on Sunday. Bowditch chipped in on his first two holes on Saturday at the TPC San Antonio and was three under par through the first two holes. A victory on Sunday would earn Bowditch a trip to Augusta National for the tour’s first major of the year.
Matt Kuchar shot the round of the day Saturday with a 65 to vault up the leader board and is only three shots back at nine under par tied with rookie Andrew Loupe, who is looking for his first PGA tour victory. Pat Perez is alone in fourth after a third round 69, and is four shots back. Kevin Na is fifth after a 69 and sits at seven under par, five shots in back of Bowditch. There are a lot of guys in the hunt who have never won a PGA tour event, so Sunday’s final round should be a great round of golf. Fan favorite Phil Mickelson withdrew from the tournament after just 11 holes on Saturday with a pulled muscle in his back. He said “I pulled a muscle on my downswing trying to hit the ball hard on the (first hole his 10th)”.
