Living, breathing, thinking and eating golf on the course. Isn’t that what we are supposed to be doing day and and day out to become the player we want to be? Hitting ball after ball; chipping endlessly; making a million putts a day; digging your feet into the bunker for hours; and doing it all over again the next day. The physical game of golf is what gets us to the ultimate goal. Right?! NO!
To be reach the goals you have set (and I do hope those goals are just out of reach so you work hard to reach them), then you must dedicate your practice not only to the physical side of the game, but the MENTAL GAME as well.
Dan Abrahams: Author, Psychologist and Mentally Tough
Golf Tough is written by an amazing individual and Lead Psychologist for England Golf, Dan Abrahams. This book will take you on a journey to change the way you think about golf and ultimately change your ‘golf brain’.
As a former touring professional golfer and PGA Coach, Abrahams has worked with players from all over the globe at all level. This is a gentleman who is here to provide every player a change to improve no matter the skill level.
His goal is to simplify ‘golf psychology’ and make is not so scary and easy to digest and apply on and off the course.
Abrahams is sought after to speak at coaching and sport psychology conferences across Europe and is renown for keeping his audience engaged through interactive presentations and workshops. (I know I am going to book one soon!)
In addition to golf, he has written two other books–Soccer Tough and Soccer Brain– and these have become international bestsellers. No matter the sport, Mr. Abrahams give the athlete simple and powerful philosophies, tools and techniques that will enable you to break through obstacles and barriers.
Of course, here at Bunkers Paradise, we would like to share with you this incredible piece of work that will transform your game and help you reach your golfing goals.
Overall Take on Golf Tough–Practice, Prepare, Perform and Progress
Be prepared to start on a new journey with Dan Abrahams as he helps you become a more productive, purposeful and confident golfer. His 4P’s is just what the golf doctor ordered and after you finish reading this book you will have a new lease on your life on and off the course.
Without going into too much detail (you need to buy the book), Abrahams gives us his insightful look at why and how we should Practice, effective Preparedness, how to Perform at your best controlling your emotional tank, and he provides a template for what Progression means to each golfer. I thoroughly enjoyed his 4P’s and will be incorporating this to my players and selfishly myself to take down my opponents.
What Dan Abrahams provides in the beginning of the book is a road map of just exactly how to read the book—there is no beginning. That’s the beauty! There is so much incredible information locked into each page and chapter that you can literally begin the book where it speaks to you and your game will change.
GolfTough brings together a multitude of tales and tools from Abrahams friends (golf professionals and golf coaches) to provide a in-depth look at the impact of the brain in golf. His resources are plenty and the fact that he uses every possible reach to give you the best of the best makes this book even more valuable.
One of the best tools this book offers in my humble opinion, is not only the information Abrahams provides, but also the quotes used throughout the book that make you stop and think as well as the vast array of practice techniques (drills, tests…). Each and every quote, drill, and test, allowed me to really take a deeper look into my game and ‘see’ where I may be lacking and the things I am doing great at on and off the course.
I am a very visual person and this book shows you lots of pictures to emphasize the importance of a main point that Dan Abrahams is trying to drive home. A simple yet descriptive picture speaks a thousand words to me and maybe to you as well and I was able to walk away with exactly how that technique would change the way I think on the course.
Final Thoughts
Seriously, I could write forever about this book. I am in total love with this book and have highlighted, taking notes and slept with it (OK, so I was reading and thought it would all sink in if under my pillow–that’s what they say right?!).
This book is a must beyond must and will become your go to book for improving your game from the inside out. Golf Tough, by Dan Abrahams, will give you the confidence through his 4P’s (Practice, Prepare, Perform, and Progress) and beyond. If you have been considering a book to purchase to read and help you delve into your game, look no further.
Dan Abrahams will take you on a journey through your mind’s eye to compete and succeed against Old Man Par. Take it from me, a former LPGA Tour Player and Mental Coach, this read will change the way you think and help you achieve your goals.
Well done Mr. Abrahams…well done!!!
