Catriona Matthew carded an eight under par, 64 in the opening round of the Airbus Classic in Mobile, Alabama. Matthew is looking for her first victory since 2011. Matthew had seven birdies, one bogey and a lone eagle on her round. Eighteen year old and sponsor invite Charley Hull fired a seven under par, 65 in her opening round and is only one stroke back. Hull hit 17 of 18 greens and went bogey free on her round.
Stacy Lewis, Eun-Hee Ji, and Suzann Pettersen had opening round six under par, 66 and are two shots back of Matthew. Six golfers are tied for sixth at five under par, after rounds of 67 and they include; Moira Dunn, Nicole Castrale, Julieta Granada, Jessica Korda, Se Ri Pak, and Jenny Shin.
