Did the PGA Tour Struggle Without Tiger Woods?

Now that the 2014 men’s U.S. Open Championship is on the books for other year, did you enjoy it? Ticket sales were down this year since Tiger Woods wasn’t in attendance. How many of you did not watch it because Tiger wasn’t in the field? Who just watch highlights because Tiger wasn’t there? How many of you fell asleep because Martin Kymer was crushing the field? You can’t take away from the brilliant play of Martin Kaymer, but did you miss Tiger not playing? Would Tiger have given Martin a run for his money? Who is the next Tiger Woods? TV ratings are down without Tiger’s participation. Will this trend continue if Tiger does not return?  All these questions won’t be answered until we see Tiger return to the tour.

I find that some did not watch or even go to the US Open because of Tiger not being there. Some people hope the former No. 1 golfer in the world plays well, while others gain satisfaction seeing him struggle. One thing’s for sure, though: TV ratings plummet when Woods isn’t playing. When Woods isn’t competing, things just don’t feel right. You can’t say that winning a tournament against players like Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson isn’t a great accomplishment, because it is, but saying you beat Tiger Woods in the U.S. Open now that’s saying something. Tiger may no longer be the No. 1 golfer in the world, but winning a major feels so much better when Woods is playing in it. I myself don’t watch PGA golf as much, now I’m watching more and more of the LPGA.

Now that Tiger Woods has decided to make his return, do you think the PGA Tour will see an increase in attendance?  I’m certain the Tour will see the benefits of having Tiger back on the course.
