Brendan Steele leads Travelers Championship: Is the Short Putter His Answer?
Steele made six birdies and an eagle in his opening round of 62 and is eight under par after the first round at the TPC River Highlands. After weeks of struggling with his long putter, Steele switched a few weeks ago to the more traditional short putter and used it for the first time in a PGA tour event on Thursday, and wow did it pay off, Steele strung together five birdies in a seven-hole stretch to take a one stroke lead. This was the second time this year Steele has shot a 62 on tour.
Bud Cauley and Ryan Moore are tied for second after superb rounds of 63 and are seven under par, just one back of Steele. Five more are tied at six under par, including; Chad Campbell, Joe Durant, Jeff Maggert, Scott Langley, and Eric Axley. Seven are tied at five under par, including Sergio Garcia and defending champion Ken Duke. Stay tuned for the best coverage in golf right here at Bunkers Paradise.
