What is it with all the injuries and withdraws this week on the nationwide golf seen? Matt Kuchar never got started at the 2014 PGA Championship and withdrew before the first round with a nagging back injury. Kuchar tied for 12th last week at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and was one of the choices to contend this week looking for his first major championship victory.

Defending Champion Jason Dufner played only a couple holes on Thursday before bowing out with bulging discs in his neck. Two bulging discs in his neck have made playing golf unbearable. Dufner doesn’t even know when or if he will ever play again but he won’t do so until he’s completely healthy.
The 2001 PGA champ David Toms withdrew early in the week also because of back pain. Ben Crane pulled out with a bad back prior to the start of his second round Friday. Crane opened with a three over par 74. Kiradech Aphibarnrat was the latest to withdraw citing a knee injury for his early exit. He had played eight holes and was and 6 over for the tournament. And that’s just the PGA Tour this week. You can add Angel Cabrera who now has withdrew with a back injury.
On the LPGA side Michelle Wie play only eight holes on Thursday and pulled out with a hand injury. “It started hurting last week” said Wie, who played her first nine holes five over. “It got to the point where I couldn’t really hold a club today.” The 2014 Women’s British Open winner Mo Martin withdrew just today from the Meijer Classic with an unknown injury.
To me, they need shorten the tournaments to three days instead of the standard four. The LPGA does that couple times a year: cut some of the pre-tournament activities let the players rest some. It seems like these players are wearing out towards the end of the season.
