John Daly Has Had Enough & More | Hitting the Links
It’s Friday, so that means it’s time for a quick recap of the most popular golf topics over the past week. Think we’ve missed anything or want to add you own take on what’s listed below? Feel free to post your thoughts in the comment section below.
Let’s get started.
John Daly is mad as hell and isn’t going to take it anymore
Earlier this week John Daly suggested on his SiriusXM radio show — “Hit it Hard with John Daly” — that the PGA Tour’s drug testing program was “a joke.” Daly even went so far as to suggest that there was nothing random about who is chosen to be tested, insinuating that the Tour targets certain players with a known history of substance abuse issues. You know, like John Daly.
According to Golfweek’s Jeff Babineau, Daly revealed that he had already been tested multiple times before playing the Valspar Championship, at which Daly is a regular. He also complained that he’d been tested “six to nine” times a year for the past seven to eight seasons on the PGA Tour.
While Daly’s comments suggest that the Tour is profiling specific players with their drug testing policy — which the Tour denied in a statement on Wednesday — there is no evidence to support his claims. Don’t expect much to come out of this story, other than possibly a sit-down meeting between the Tour and Daly in the near future.
A massive alligator wandered onto a golf course
We’ve all heard of alligators on golf courses before, but nothing quite like this sucker.
The Blaze reported on Wednesday that an incredibly large lizard-monster waddled onto Myakka Pines Golf Club in Florida, causing the internet to explode with pictures of the beast flooding Facebook and Twitter timelines in the process. I mean… just look at this thing:

What’s even more terrifying is that the article suggests there was once an alligator larger than this one who called the course home.
As you can probably suspect, there are already people wondering if this is a Photoshopped image or doctored in some way. There’s really no (easy) way of knowing for sure, but I think I speak for everyone when I say HOLY GOD I HOPE THAT’S FAKE.
Henrik Stenson has an interesting take on PEDS
When it comes to PEDs and golf, there are mixed opinions on their impact on a player’s on-course performance. Henrik Stenson offered his take at a press conference prior to this week’s Valspar Championship.
When asked about his thoughts on the current anti-doping movement on the PGA Tour, Stenson had a… creative reply.
“Long and straight. Viagra might be the only one that’s going to get you anywhere,” Stenson said with a laugh. “I don’t know. What else? I don’t know what else you take for performance enhancement in golf.”
I don’t really know either, Henrik; but you answered that question perfectly. In all seriousness, hand-eye coordination and overall talent aren’t enhanced with pharmaceuticals. But when it comes to beefing up muscles, apparently there are different views on which areas to focus.
