Place Your Bets: PGA Tour’s Crowne Plaza Invitational

The PGA Tour swings into Texas this week for the Crowne Plaza Invitational where players will be looking to build momentum heading into major championship season.

With the stature of Ben Hogan watching over Colonial Golf Club like a hawk (see what I did there?), there are a couple names to really look out for in the Lone Star State — so get your pencils ready.

Jordan Spieth — Much like Rory McIlroy, if Spieth is playing, he’s worth putting money on no matter what the odds are. This week, the young Texan returns to his home state where he looks to pick up PGA Tour win No. 4 at the Crowne Plaza Invitational. Spieth may have missed the cut at his last start, but he’s not too far removed from a stretch of 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 1st finishes that netted him his first major title and opened up conversations about being Rory McIlroy’s chief rival for the next quarter century. At 5/1 this week, Speith is worth a significant bet.

Daniel Berger — If Justin Thomas isn’t the next first time winner on the PGA Tour, it’s going to be Daniel Berger. The secret is pretty close to being out on this Florida State talent, but you can still make good money on his first win if you act fast. I believe he’s a got a shot at winning this week at Colonial and at 60/1, you’ll be rewarded handsomely if he does. He almost won the Honda Classic already this year — it’s only a matter of time before he gets the job done.

John Senden — If it comes as a surprise to you that I’m taking the action on John Senden this week, then you just haven’t been paying attention. The Aussie and Dallas resident has collected a top-5 and top-10 finish in his last two starts on Tour and has enjoyed some success at Colonial in the past. He hasn’t won since last year’s Valspar Championship, but could be poised to hoist the trophy this week. At 40/1, you’ll be glad you took my advice.

Chris Kirk — Last year, Chris Kirk had a helluva year. He collected two wins and got his name mentioned with Jimmy Walker and Patrick Reed as some of the better, previously unheralded talent on the PGA Tour. He’s still looking for his first W of the 2015 season, but he could very well get that this week at the Crowne Plaza. Why do I say that? Because Kirk has finished outside the top-16 at Colonial just once in five career starts. He finished T-4 here last year and at 30/1 is certainly worth a couple shekels.

If you’re looking for more than four names to take the action on or just can’t bare to pick Chris Kirk because he broke your sisters heart in high school (not my business) then I offer you Ryan Palmer, Kevin Kisner and Pat Perez as solid alternate choices. All three have their reasons and all three are offering a great return on investment.

There you have it, friends and degenerate wagerers. Until next time, go and choose wisely.
