PUMA Soundchuck: A Must-Have for All Fans of Music, Golf
PUMA has been one of the golf industry’s top brands for a while thanks to pros like Rickie Fowler and Lexi Thompson, and the game has come to expect hip trends in fashion and gear from the company.
Last year, the brand with a “youthful mindset” released the PUMA Soundchuck — a portable bluetooth speaker that is changing the way people play casual rounds of golf.
“You want to play music on the golf course?,” asks Tom Manthe, Global Marketing Manager at PUMA. “Done tastefully at a low-level, it’s actually pretty fun.”
Indeed, it can be. I recently had the opportunity to try one out for myself, and let me tell you, if you don’t have a Soundchuck already, get one. You won’t be disappointed.
Performance:
Soundchuck is super versatile. Not only is it weather-resistant, it’s light-weight and very nimble. You can drape it over your golf bag, over your shoulders, leave it on the deck while you’re in the pool — wherever you want your music to go, Soundchuck will go.
I used mine during a round of golf, but that’s not all it’s good for.
“You can use it a lot more places than the golf course,” Manthe said. “I’ve actually used a pair in my backyard when I’m out there grilling. The cool thing about [Soundchuck] is that it’s directional — which is great if you’re trying to be cognizant of others on the golf course.”
This couldn’t be more true.
When I golfed with it, I had The Police cranked all the way up — loud enough to drown out my grumbling buddy — but is barely audible from as close as 15 feet. That means there’s no way the curmudgeon one fairway over could be disturbed by my listening to “Roxanne” while I try to save bogey.
Durability:

The Soundchuck is insanely easy to use and lasts forever. It takes less than 30 seconds to get it playing your tunes, and could literally be mastered by anyone. A fully charged battery lasted me two rounds of golf and an afternoon by the pool — quite an impressive feat.
Speaking of the pool, did I mention the things are water resistant?
Seriously, try splashing your iHome and see what happens? Or take your other bluetooth speakers out in a little drizzle and see how they work.
The PUMA Soundchuck can be busted, but you really would have to try to mess them up — and really, who is going to do that?
Verdict:
Ultimately, the Soundchuck deserves a 5-out-of-5 rating. It’s amazing. Everyone I know that has seen mine has already placed orders for their own. The versatility can’t be beat, no matter where you plan to use them. They’re absolutely essential for any type of outdoor excursion, in my opinion.
The one issue is they might be hard to acquire:
“We completely under forecast how many we needed,” Manthe said. “The demand for them has been overwhelming and awesome. More and more I find myself talking about them because they’re in such great demand. They’ve been really tough to get.
“We have a lot of fun products you see week in and week out with the clothing, but we also have different accessories – like the Soundchucks — that promote that and that mindset.”
Perhaps the best part, though, is the price. The Soundchuck will set you back a measly $129.95. When you consider the price of other bluetooth speakers, that’s an absolute steal.
