John Daly News: 1991 PGA Champ Throws Club in Lake Michigan
J0hn Daly has long been considered a man of the people — but on Friday at the PGA Championship, Daly once again solidified his place as a legend among blue-collar golf fans.
Daly has been known to have some epic meltdowns on the golf course. No one will forget the time he shot 90 or pumped seven golf balls in a lake before walking off and withdrawing. On Friday, he added another to the meltdown highlight reel:
Not going to lie, I give this a 10:
Daly’s game seems to have abandoned him despite flashes of the brilliance that made him a major champion twice over. His 10 at the par-3 7th pretty much solidified that he wouldn’t be hanging around for the weekend.
One good thing that came out of it? A Father and Son on the lake got themselves quite the souvenir from the 97th PGA Championship.
Sidenote: I know this is going to open up a can of worms from the Daly haters who will deem this, “conduct unbecoming” of a potential future Ryder Cup captain — but if throwing a club into a lake is a big enough deal to keep one from captaincy consideration, then remember — Rory McIlroy will never be a captain, either.
