Tiger And The Funky Bunch
Tiger Woods is all set to make his return to Riviera Country Club to play the Genesis Open. In true Hollywood fashion, he played a Pro-Am round with Mark Walhberg. They teed off at 6:40 am and the crowds grew as their round progressed.
He put together a efficient round, hitting 8 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens, with three birdies against just one bogey. He will looking to play well the next couple of days with player partners, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas. “We’re going to have a lot of fun,” he said. “I think that all three of us are excited about playing with one another in this event.”
Woods hasn’t played here since withdrawing with a cold after two rounds in 2006. This tournament usually has a lot of top players on the PGA Tour, but Woods seems like an A-list movie star on the course.
Tiger needs to get in some reps before the majors start rolling in. Riviera is a great place to play because the Genesis Open now benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation. “I love the golf course, I love the layout, it fits my eye and I play awful,” he said. “It’s very simple. It’s just one of those weird things.”
He will be making his 10th start in this tournament, which he has not won. Maybe the Hollywood script writers can pencil in a victory for Tiger on Sunday.
