Complete Guide to Capital One’s Champions For Change: Mickelson/Barkley vs. Curry/Manning
Joining in the Capital One’s The Match: Champions for Change are legends Phil Mickelson and Charles Barkley who are expected to take on a returning Peyton Manning and teamed with NBA’s Steph Curry.
Below is the complete guide on the details of the event that aims to raise funds for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), to promote awareness, diversity, and equality in sports.
The Format
The Match 3 will consist of 18 holes with a modified alternate shot. The format allows players from each team to hit tee shits, swap balls for their approach shots. For the subsequent shots, the teams can pick which ball they wish to play for their third.
How good are Barkley, Manning, and Curry at golf?
No doubt Manning can play well as seen in his performance in The Match 2 with a 6.4 handicap index. The former NFL quarterback proves his time playing golf is paying off when he and Tiger Woods defeated Mickelson and Tom Brady earlier in the spring.
Curry, on the other hand, has a decent track record in the field with plays off of 0.1 handicap index. He has played in the Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae. He might well be a professional golf player if he has not been a basketball player.
It is expected to see the five0time major champion Phil Mickelson play on his element, as usual. Barkley demonstrated a major improvement during the video broadcast of the “Bogey or Better” challenge during The Match 2’s 18th hole.
While Mickelson and Barkley seem to be in advantage with a professional golfer in the team, odds are higher for the Manning and Curry pairing.
