Harry Redknapp’s Star-Studded Golf Day Raises Funds for HEROS Charity in Spectacular Fashion
Harry Redknapp’s All Star HEROS Golf Day, held on August 13, 2024, at the picturesque Ferndown Golf Club in Dorset, proved to be a resounding success. The event, organized to support the HEROS Charity, brought together sports celebrities and members of the public in a spirited competition. The primary goal was to raise funds for HEROS, a charity dedicated to providing educational programs for children with special needs through the use of retired racehorses.
The tournament featured 22 teams, each enhanced by the presence of a celebrity. Football and sporting legends took to the fairways alongside enthusiastic participants, contributing to both the competitive atmosphere and the noble cause. The day concluded with a dinner, auction, and prize-giving ceremony at the clubhouse, with prizes provided by sponsors Skechers, Yumax Golf, and golftrophy.co.uk.
In a thrilling finale, the team led by former football manager Tony Pulis emerged victorious with an impressive 94 points, clinching the first-place trophy. The second spot was secured by the team of Paul Walsh, Harry Shaw, Luke Ansell, and Simon Watson, who amassed 89 points and triumphed on countback. Rounding out the top three was the team that included Jeremy Guscott, a former Bath and England Rugby center, alongside Peter Youell, Ben Davis, and Richard Parker.
Special competitions added an extra layer of excitement to the event. The Nearest the Pin contest was won by racehorse trainer John Flint, while Charlie St Quinton, assistant to trainer Fergal O’Brien, achieved the Longest Drive accolade.
Established in 2015, HEROS Charity focuses on providing enriching educational experiences for children with special needs using retired racehorses. Their programs include a weekly enrichment session for up to 70 SEN students aged 11-16 and post-16 diplomas in Horse Care and Animal Care for students with EHCPs, aimed at opening up job opportunities. The funds raised from the golf day will be utilized to convert existing buildings into a new Education Centre, increasing student capacity to 120 places per week and extending their reach to SEN students in South Oxfordshire and West Berkshire.
Harry Redknapp, the patron of HEROS, was elated with the event’s success. “I am delighted to be a patron of HEROS, I really admire the work they do for both former racehorses and young people. It was a pleasure to work with them on our first golf day together and great to see so many of my old muckers out playing golf. I hope we can build on what was a great day and continue to raise awareness and the vital funds the charity needs to continue their fantastic work.”
Echoing his sentiments, Grace Muir, CEO of HEROS, expressed her gratitude towards all involved. “We are so pleased with how Harry Redknapp’s All Star HEROS went for our first year. For us, it was fantastic to see so many new faces at one of our events, enabling us to spread the HEROS message further. A special thanks to Harry and all the celebrities who gave up their time to support the day and thank you to all our sponsors and of course the players. I feel sure to say a wonderful day was had by all and we are already planning the date for next year.”
The future promises further growth for Harry Redknapp’s All Star HEROS Golf Day with plans to enhance awareness and fundraising efforts for HEROS Charity. The continuation and expansion of this event will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the charity’s mission, benefiting both retired racehorses and children with special needs.
As the echoes of the successful day linger, the anticipation for next year’s event builds, promising more participation, greater achievements, and crucially, increased support for a cause close to many hearts.
