Sean O’Hair Wins Playoff; Clinches RBC Canadian Open in Sudden Death
Sean O’Hair got his first PGA Tour victory in over two years today when he won a sudden death playoff hole to win the RBC Canadian Open.
O’Hair shot a 4-under 68 in today’s final round to earn a tiebreaker with American Kris Blanks. The two went to a sudden death playoff where O’Hair hit a bogey on his first shot. Blanks proceeded to miss a bogey putt, clinching the hole and the championship for O’Hair.
The 29 year-old O’Hair started the day three shots behind leader Bo Van Pelt before shooting 68 to earn his place in the playoff with Blanks (70) at 4-under 276.
John Daly made some noise in the tournament as well. On Sunday he shot 72 to finish in a four-way tie for ninth at 280, earning his first top-10 finish in six years. He shared the spot with current Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, amateur sensation Patrick Cantley, and Spencer Levin, who all finished Sunday with 69s.
O’Hair won a reported $936,000 for winning the tournament. His winnings from this weekend’s tournament was enough to almost triple his season earnings coming into the week, and propelled him up 104 places in the FedEx Cup playoff standings to 43rd. There are five weeks left in the race.
