Tiger Woods Focused on ‘Winning Championships’

After a three month hiatus Tiger Woods is ready to take the course again this weekend for the first time since the Masters.

Woods, who missed the previous three months due to complications from knee and Achilles injuries, has had a tumultuous year on and off the course. Since the Masters he has dropped from 8th in the world rankings to 28th, fired his longtime caddie Steve Williams, and faced many questions asking if he would ever be the same.

However, despite all the scrutiny and media attention Woods seemed unusually upbeat as he prepared for this weekend’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. He stated he hasn’t felt this good in years, and that he’s focused on winning championships.

“I’m just focused on trying to win a golf tournament,” Woods said. “That’s it.”

That might be more difficult than Woods is expecting, as it has been nearly two years since the last time he won a PGA Tour event. Since then he’s dealt with multiple injuries and even more issues with his swing. There is also all the personal problems that surfaced and helped derail Woods’ performance on the course.

He stated that the Masters was the first time in a long time his swing felt natural and fluid, and says he feels better than he has in a long time heading into this weekend.

“I’m ready to go,” said Woods. “I feel good now. It was the right thing to do, and here I am.”
