Pro players excited to play in 2016 Olympics
In a hilarious publicity stunt, Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia hit balls off of a rolling barge in the Thames River on Monday.
Golf will be added as an official Olympic sport in 2016 and several of the pros can’t wait to be part of the action. When Johnson was asked about participating in the Olympics, he said
It would be really cool to be part of the opening ceremony with all the other athletes from your country.
The play format for the Olympics will include a 72-hole stroke-play tournament for men and women with 60 players in each. I find it extremely interesting to see how the Olympic tournament will rank and be considered among players compared to the four majors. Johnson also went on to say,
Olympics is about being an athlete, not just another tournament. Just being part of something that is a lot bigger than you.
The publicity stunt was put on by Addidas to promote themselves and to donate money to some worthy causes. As far as the Olympics are concerned, I am very excited to see how the tournament is set up and executed. I’m sure they will hire the best people for the job and it will be done well. As a United States citizen, I will be over the top excited about supporting our American golfers in the 2016 Olympics. USA!
