The Valero Texas Open dates back to 1922, when it was first called the Texas Open . In 2002, a San Antonio-based Valero Energy Corporation became the title sponsor. This stroke play tournament takes place on the Oaks Course at the TPC San Antonio.   It is known as  a tournament where players can shoot relatively  low scores.  The current purse is set at $6.2 million with $1.11 going to the champion along with 500 Fed Ex Cup Points.
